If you are in Valencia during late September/early October, you will probably notice the arrival of the “gota fría” (literally, “the cold drop”). This is an annual weather phenomenon that affects the east coast of Spain and that involves falling temperatures and sudden torrential downpours.

An umbrella or raincoat won’t do you much good if you get caught in one of these showers as you’ll get soaked whatever you do. It’s usually best just to stay inside until it dries up again.
