TEN SECONDS OF FAME FOR ROUTE 66 IDIOMAS MOVIE STARS!

For one morning, a group of Spanish language students and teachers from Route 66 Idiomas felt like real movie stars! The museum de las Artes y las Ciencias organised a television workshop and we all went to get a closer look on the world called television making.
We kicked off with an explanation about the scenery, the set and of course the camera. After that, it was time for a casting; the one with the best presentation skills had the luck to show in the programme that we were about to make. A show of Idols wouldn´t have been better!

EXPOSITION IN THE SCHOOL

A few weeks ago, we created a photo exposition by Elías Ibáñez Caballero. It includes black and white photos of Valencia. A few questions for the great artist:

Why did you choose these pictures for the exposition in the school?
Because they give a good impression of the city of Valencia, especially for people who don’t know the city.
Which one is your favourite photo? Is there a story behind it?
Without a doubt my favourite photo is the one of the burning Falla. The day they burned the Fallas, I went outside to have a quick look, made 3 or 4 photos and went inside again, where I saw that one of the photos I´d taken was ´this´ one. I like it very much.

SUMMER SEASON AND MORE.. PARTYS!

On 21st of June, the longest day of the year, the summer officially started. The beach party San Juan, on the 24th of June, was a nice inauguration to the summer season as well.
The thermometer rises bit by bit and so too does the number of holidaymakers on the beach and in the centre.
At the beginning of this month, we expect a visitor: the pope. Valencia is prepared for a visit of about 2 million Catholics, who all want to catch a glimpse of the pope. The pope will only be here the 8th and 9th of July, but the whole rigmarolo starts on the first of July.
After the pope goes back to Rome again the next party coming up is: the ´Festival Eclèctic´. This annual festival takes place on the 15th, 21th, 23th and 25th of July.
The celebration will be held in the Rio Turia and the special act of this year will be Pet Shop Boys on the 23th of July.
The same weekend the famous International Festival of Benicássim will start. The festival lasts five days, from the 20th till the 24th of July. Some of the artists are Scissor Sisters y Placebo. For more information you can have a look at http://www.fiberfib.com/

Besides of this festival, July is known as the month of the streetpartys and other celebrations. No time to get bored!

WORDS OF THE DIRECTOR

On April 4th 2006, Route 66 existed a year and I am very proud of all the things that we have accomplished so far. Almost 250 students, both private individuals and companies like TNT and the University of Valencia have given us their confidence and trust. We have taught a whole range of languages like Spanish and English, but also Valencian, German, French and Dutch.
This first edition of our monthly newsletter ´El Mundo de Route 66´ is a good example of all positive developments and progresses Route 66 is going through. It reflects our ideas of learning a language: you don’t only learn a language by being taught in a class room. We also want to make sure that our students can practice their knowledge in real life situations, that they get to know the other students and most of all; that they can enjoy the Valencian way of life to the max! I wish you all a lot of fun reading it.
