Beatles Day
Sep 11

Menudo frenesí con el 9 de septiembre. The Beatles eran de Liverpool, pero para mucha gente no es un dato importante. Lo verdaderamente imprescindible del cuarteto pop inglés era su música. ¿Sólo era? ¿No lo es aún?
A eso vamos: ¿sois de la experimental I am the walrus, la movida Get back o la romanticona I wanna hola your hand?
Y no se aceptan respuestas del estilo “Yo soy más de los Rolling”.
Pd. ¿Sabéis que los beatlemaníacos han pedido formalmente que el 9 de septiembre sea el Beatles’ Day?

In the doorway of Route 66 on Street Map, but who are they?
Sep 11

I still can’t decide whether I think Google Street Map is a brilliant innovation (it is handy to be able to actually see a place you’re visiting before leaving the house), or if it’s intrusive and something I should worry about (anyone, anywhere in the world, can see my front door).
Out of curiosity, I took a look at the front door of Route 66. It seems that when the photographers passed by they managed to snap a couple of people in the entrance way. Who are they?
If you want to check it out, go here
Enter “Carrer del portal de san jordi 46002 valencia” in the search box.
Go to Street View and go forward down the street until you’re level with the entrance to Route 66, turn to the left and there they are!

Recently I was lucky enough to be treated by two of my friends (thanks Lila and Irena!) to a trip to the Calma Spa, which is next to the Plaza de Ayuntamiento and 2 minutes from Route 66.
The entrance is small and not immediately obvious, so I was curious to discover how they squeeze a “balenario” inside. It turns out the magical spa cave is hidden away in the basement.
During 90 minutes you get to visit two warm spa pools and their massaging jets and cascades, with the brave entering the ice-cold plunge pool in between (apparently altering the hot and cold is good for your circulation, but I was only bullied into going in once). Then you visit the sauna and steam room before going through a series of showers, ending with the fantastic-smelling rose-water shower.
It was great to discover such a treat hidden right in the middle of Valencia: http://www.calma.es/index.php
